Transportation

The city of Rethymnon is located between two international airports and ports in Heraklion and Chania.

Travelers have to reach to Heraklion or Chania and then to Rethymnon by land travel.

There are several choices:

 

By airplane:

1. Direct scheduled and charter flights from many European airports to Heraklion (HER) and Chania (CHQ) airports.

Direct scheduled flights from Athens (ATH) and Thessaloniki (SKG) airports to Heraklion (HER) and Chania (CHQ) airports. Daily scheduled flights are provided by Aegean Airlines, SkyExpress and Ryanair.

 

By Boat:

There are daily ferry services between the mainland port of Piraeus and the ports of Heraklion and Chania (Souda port), provided by Minoan Lines, ANEK Lines and Blue Star Ferries.

 

Land Travel Information:

Distance between Rethymnon and Heraklion: about 80 Km

Distance between Rethymnon and Chania: about 60 Km

 

Suggested Options:

  1. Direct bus transfer (public bus service KTEL) from Chania airport/port to Rethymnon
  2. Transfer by taxi from airport/port to the bus terminal in Heraklion or Chania. Then transfer to Rethymnon by the public bus service KTEL (Link 1 - Link 2).
  3. Direct transfer by taxi from airport/port to Rethymnon. The cost ranges between 80 and 90 euros (the cost can be divided if more than one passengers share the taxi).
